THE article in last week’s Observer about the response of our MP to the police cuts was rather misleading as it gave the impression that the only effect they would have in Hastings was some minor restructuring – this is of course not the case.
Sussex Police are to lose more than 500 police officers and more than 500 police staff officers as a result of the Government cuts - which include forcing our most experienced officers to retire.
To imagine that this would not affect crime in the county, as Amber Rudd seems to think, is surely rather naïve.
We are all well aware, as demonstrated by the recent disturbances in many parts of the country, that we need a strong and highly motivated police force and I do support the Sussex Police Federation’s view that urges MPs to ‘break ranks and publicly speak out against the cuts to the policing budget’.
