Church sanctity needs preserving

FURTHER to, and in defence of, Mr N Bacon’s letter on the alterations to St Clement’s Church interior, what modern changes have very successfully been done is remove from our fine old parish churches that which is sometimes called the ‘odour of sanctity and prayerfulness’ and replaced it with glitzy modern furniture and amenities.

People in the 21st century need that contemplative, calm atmosphere when visiting a church, not something that is merely an extension of their daily lives.

In other words, something that speaks of eternity.
