Charity bags make excellent bin liners

MRS Hufton’s annoyance with the numer of plastic charity bags delivered (letters, Observer, March 2) prompts me to say that I have read that many of these organisations are suspect.

In other words, only a small proportion of the money raised from collected items actually reaches the needy in some cases.

So it’s safest to respond only to the known established charities like Shelter, The Salvation Army, local lifeboat collections etc. Be wary of those ones with emotive names like ‘Precious Little Orphaned Sunbeams’ and such like.

And their capacious bags make excellent dustbin liners.
