A HEADTEACHER and former Hastings MP were some of the guests at an inaugural event designed to celebrate the achievements of women across East Sussex.

Angela O’Connor OBE, head of Sacred Heart School, Jacqui Lait ex-MP, and Habibah Usher of Hastings Voluntary Action, were just three out of more than 250 people at the East Sussex Women of the Year Luncheon last Wednesday (May 11).

The event, whose honorary patron this year is HRH, the Duchess of Cornwall, showcased the enterprise and inspiration of women working in professional and voluntary roles and their contribution to the county.

Guests at the event, held at the East Sussex National Golf Resort in Uckfield, included High Sheriffs, former mayors, chairmen of carers’ organisations, music festivals, former and vice Lord Lieutenants, barristers, and headmistresses.

As part of the event, guests supported a fundraising campaign for cancer research at the oncology department at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, which is a partnership between the University of Brighton, the University of Sussex and local NHS trusts.
