Witness appeal over stolen moped

THIEVES swiped a moped while it was parked on a grass verge.

The theft happened between 7pm and 10.45pm on May 25 when the black and yellow moped was stolen from Baldslow Road.

Four days later officers saw the moped being ridden by two boys in Braybrooke Road at about 4.45pm. But after they began following the boys the suspects abandoned the vehicle at the junction of Lower Park Road and Dordrecht Way and ran off.

Two 16-year-old boys from Hastings were later arrested on suspicion of theft and questioned before being released on bail until 11 June while officers carry out further enquiries.

A crash helmet was later found in bushes in Alexandra Park.

PC Jodie Walter said: “Although we have arrested two boys we are keen to speak to anyone who saw the moped being abandoned close to Alexandra Park. I would particularly like to speak to a man and a woman who spoke briefly to officers at the scene and were able to give a description of the people who ran off and the way they went.” Anyone with information can call 101 quoting serial 1552 of 25/5 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk
