ONE knitting group had their sights set on Olympic gold when they created this unique window display.

Representing the whole spectrum of sporting events, athletes are kitted (or knitted) out in red, white, and blue.

The display will be on show throughout the Games at the Post Office Tea Rooms at Marine Court, St Leonards, and the attention to detail visible in each of the figures is already causing curious spectators to press their noses against the glass.

Manager Philip Bray said: “There has been a really good response so far. We have to clean the windows every day because they are covered in fingerprints!”

The knitting group meets weekly at the Post Office Tea Rooms, and members have been knitting furiously over the past few months to create synchronised swimmers, a diver, martial arts display, gymnasts, and even three athletes on a podium - all British of course.

Following the Olympic Games, the display will be adapted for the Paralympics, and the group are currently at work on knitted wheelchairs among other things.

Philip said they are considering donating the knitted athletes to charity following the Games, and would welcome expressions of interest.
