Were you evacuated to a country house during the Second World War?
An American history graduate wants to hear from anyone who was forced to leave their homes during the war and ended up in a stately home.
Johnnie Manckiy recently graduated from university with a BA in history. During the war many country houses across the country from Thirlestane Castle and Blair Castle in Scotland to Chatsworth and Castle Howard in England were home to evacuated schoolchildren to name a few.
Mr Manckiy wants to learn about the experiences of people who called Britain’s stately homes during the war. He is also interested in learning how country houses adapted to new roles as schools. Any photographs would also be greatly appreciated for his research.
