A BARMAID was bamboozled this week when she was left without beer after a bizarre brewery mix-up.

Pam Stent - who serves customers at the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) club in Wellington Square - was bemused after hooking up new barrels and finding they were full of water.

The club received three of the offending kegs from Carlsberg-Tetley and membership secretary Emma Boyes said they had never seen anything like it.

“At first the brewery said we might have hooked them up wrong but we haven’t and they say they are investigating now. We have heard other pubs have had the same thing happen and Carlsberg-Tetley seem quite mystified.

“We had to get a taxi down to Morrison’s to pick up beer to tide us over but we did have some complaints.”

The club will have a stall at Armed Forces’ Day tomorrow (Saturday) and will be open all day. “We promise to have beer by then, plus free food,” Miss Boyes said.

The club is accepting new members – call 01424 430250 for more information.
