COUNCIL leaders and senior managers from the council’s new waste contractor, Kier, briefed community leaders on the new waste and recycling collections arrangements at Stade Hall last Tuesday evening (September 3).

Kier took over the waste collection contract in Hastings in July, and is working with Hastings Borough Council to make improvements to the waste and recycling service at the end of October. Cllr Jay Kramer, the council’s lead member for the environment, said: “We had around 50 people at Stade Hall on the night. I felt like I was wearing two hats, as I am also chairman of the Joint Waste Committee, a partnership between Eastbourne, Rother, Wealden and East Sussex councils and ourselves. As a result we are able to save around £6 million for Hastings residents alone over the next 10 years.”
