Walk for legal aid raises £1,500 for services

Scores of people walked 10 kilometres to raise money for legal aid services in Hastings and St Leonards.

Lawyers, law firms, advisors, support workers, teams from other agencies and members of the judiciary walked the route to raise funds for the Advice and Community Hub which is home to Citizens Advice 1066, Hastings Advice and Representation Centre (HARC) and BHT Sussex Advice.

Jo Wilson, BHT Sussex Hastings advice manager, said: “On behalf of the three advice services I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came out to walk and show their support for free, legal advice in Hastings and St Leonards.

“It was amazing to see so many people from different agencies supporting the advice services. In the last year we estimate more than 8,000 people have accessed advice through the Advice and Community Hub, for most people it is not a single issue, but multiple issues that they require advice on. With this in mind we estimate we have advised onmore thsn 16,000 issues in one year.

“The total amount raised by the teams supporting the walk so far is £1,500 which is great news but there is still time to donate and show your support for free legal advice in our town.”
