VOLUNTEERS are wanted to help steward the Olympic Torch Relay when it comes to the town on July 17 and 18.
Hastings Borough Council are calling on members of the local community to help out from 1pm until 11pm on Tuesday July, 17 and from 7.30am until 10am on Wednesday, July 18.
Council spokesman Kevin Boorman said: “The visit of the Olympic Torch Relay to Hastings, and the evening celebrations here, will be one of the highlights of the summer. It will be brilliant for residents and visitors alike, and will be great for the town, bringing international interest, and providing a real boost to the local economy.
“And we need volunteers to help us marshal the Torch’s visit! The torch will be running along Bexhill Road and the seafront, through the town centre and back onto the seafront on the afternoon and early evening of Tuesday 17th July, and then up the Bourne and old London Road, and then Rye Road, as it leaves town on the morning of Wednesday 18th July.
“Groups like the Lions, Hastings Runners, the Bonfire Society, and the Carnival Association have been really supportive, but the length of route means that we need even more marshals and stewards.
