Centre manager Sue Adey presented her with the award on May 31, and said: “In the past she has run the centre when it has been without management. Whatever it is, she just rolls up her sleeves and gets on with it.”

To mark its 75th anniversary, WRVS has relaunched as Royal Voluntary Service.

Along with a new name, the national charity, which focuses on improving the lives of older people in Britain, also has a new logo, and a new slogan: “together for older people”.
