UPDATE: Trapped man rescued after car crashed into St Leonards tree

Firefighters rescued a man trapped in his car after crashing into a tree in St Leonards yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, March 15).

Emergency services were called to the crash in Castleham Road, on the Castleham Industrial Estate, at around 3.50pm.

It is thought the 53-year-old man may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash, police said.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crews released him in to the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service at around 4pm.

The casualty was assessed and treated before being taken to Conquest Hospital.
