UPDATE: Boy in serious condition in hospital following St Leonards collision

An 11-year-old boy remains in a serious condition in hospital following a collision in St Leonards on Saturday (October 22).

Officers were called to the incident in Bexhill Road at about 1pm.

Sussex Police said a silver Renault Espace travelling westbound collided with a central crossing bollard close to the junction with Bulverhythe Road, where the boy was waiting to cross.

The vehicle collided with the child, who was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting with a head injury, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting Operation Neutral.

Police said a 69-year-old man from St Leonards, arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs, has been bailed until December 21 pending further enquiries.
