The UK’s top female skateboarder Lucy Adams will be visiting the skate park in Hastings next week.

Lucy has joined forces with Us Girls, a charity aimed at getting young women active by providing sport within their communities.

She will be at the skate park on Tuesday, October 16, at 5.30pm.

The professional skater has signed up to become an ‘Us Girls Champion’, a role intended to inspire more young women to enjoy sport.

Cllr Emily Westley, lead member for leisure at Hastings Borough Council, said: “Lucy is a great example of how women can excel in a prominently male arena.

“Her passion and enthusiasm for skateboarding is contagious and Hastings Us Girls members will get the chance to meet Lucy, ask questions and maybe even learn a few tricks!”

Lucy added: “I’m passionate about my sport and want to do all I can to break down barriers that prevent young women enjoying sport, no matter what the activity. “Taking part in something physical like skateboarding is exciting and fun so hopefully I can encourage some girls to give it a go.”

She is also keen to hear the girls’ views about the development of the skate park and what would encourage them to use it more.

Us Girls sessions are delivered in Hastings by the council’s Active Hastings team. A full programme of activities can be found at {http:\\||link}.
