TWO women were recognised for the part they played in the organisation of last year’s Hastings Week.

The Bowskill Trophy was awarded to Tracy Millns and Sharon Johnson last Friday (January 25) for doing so much to coordinate the events for Hastings Week.

It is the first time the trophy has been shared between two winners.

The winner is chosen each year by a majority vote based on public nominations, and is given to a person, group or organisation who has done most to promote the prestige of the week.

It is presented in memory of Cyril Bowskill who, with his wife Joan, was a great supporter of Hastings Week.

Certificates of Merit are given to ‘runners up’, which this year included Hastings History House, Hastings Family History Group, Juliette Dodd for her portraits and Sue Castro for the Craft Fair.

There were special thanks to Hastings Old Town Carnival Queen, Miss Hastings Elle Shoesmith and princess Emma Louise Tyrrell for their appearances during the week and to Kevin Boorman and Sarah Crosby from Hastings Borough Council.

Hastings Week spokesman Ion Castro said: “Everyone works so hard for the success of Hastings Week and it’s always difficult to choose but it is good, and very necessary to show appreciation.”

Commemorative plaques were also handed out to the schools who took part in the Hastings Week Art Competition.
