Two women have been arrested after police stopped a car that had been speeding through Hastings.

At 1.40am today (Thursday, June 4) a Vauxhall Corsa saloon struck a parked van on The Ridge, and failed to stop for an officer in police car in Old London Road.

The Corsa was followed but repeatedly failed to stop for police despite the use of the blue warning lights and siren.

When it slowed again in Bohemia Road, the police car was able to manoeuvre and make contact with the car to stop it speeding away again. The Corsa stopped, turning on to its side and collidiing with a parked car.

Two local women, aged 21 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, and after being treated for minor injuries at the Conquest Hospital, are currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.

The police officer was not injured.

Estimated speeds of the Corsa varied from 15mph to 80mph.
