The Sara Lee Trust, which was based at St Michael’s Hospice, has announced contingency measures following the recent fire at the hospice and is appealing for donations.

The fire on July 11, which left three people dead and destroyed much of the building, was the base for The Sara Lee Trust (SLT) which offers complementary therapy treatments and specialist counselling for those with life-threatening conditions.

The Trust’s Fundraising manager, Maria Gonet, said the fire had a devastating impact on the care and services of both the Hospice and The SLT. “We are working together to ensure that patient care is prioritised and services maintained,” she said. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the three patients who have since passed away.

“The Sara Lee Trust will be working with the Hospice and other local providers to ensure support and care remains available to all hospice inpatients who have been relocated from the Hospice on a temporary basis.

“The Trust is putting contingency measures in place to continue to provide its services for non-hospice patients from alternative locations; for as long as its Hospice based therapy facilities remain inaccessible. We have also increased our therapy capacity in the short-term, to meet any additional needs of current Hospice patients and ensure they have as much care and support as we can offer. We have secured alternative therapy and counselling space and have started rescheduling appointments. Support at this time to help with the delivery of our services would be gratefully received.”
