PEDESTRIANS and drivers had a fortunate escape when this 30ft tree came crashing to the ground in Alexandra Park.
The oak tree fell down on Friday evening, landing on fencing in Dordrecht Way and completely blocking the road. No people or cars were caught be the falling branches.
County council workmen cleared the site and allowed traffic to flow through the road.
The rest of the tree was cleared away by council contractors on Monday morning. The reason for the tree’s fall was not known.
Borough council spokesman Kevin Boorman said: “Trees in Alexandra Park are inspected annually, and no obvious problems had been found with this one.”
