The launch of Sputnik2

Sigue, Sigue Sputniks former vocalist, Martin Degville and partner Johann Weidenann are set to rocket Hastings fashionistas into outer space with the launch of Sputnik2 Designs ‘clothes for rebels’.

Martin and Johann’s shop, which opened it’s doors for the first time last Saturday, is full of original designs without designer label price-tags and Martin said they already have orders from customers who were waiting for the doors to open.

He said: “We had a good response when we opened the door. Some of the designs we’d been working on for the past month and we are not expensive.”

With a range of men’s and women’s clothes starting at £10, that are bejewelled and studded, including jackets and Goth shirts which are all hand stitched, Martin hopes the shop in Hastings will be as successful as his previous ventures as a designer in Kensington, London, which was a success prior to becoming the lead vocalist with iconic electro 80’s band Sigue, Sigue Sputnik.

He said: “People used to queue up waiting for me to turn up with the stock in London and I’ve been wanting to get back into fashion design for a long time.”

British New Wave band Sigue, Sigue Sputnik still has thousands of fans worldwide and Martin says he will continue to perform and release music but hopes his shop in Hastings town centre will be a big draw both for fans of his band and people looking for something different and original. He said: “There’s a big university in Hastings and a lot of people seem to be rocking and rolling down here.

“I do think Hastings needs something like this which is alternative, which is reasonably priced and which is not too over the top.”
