Taxi driver is assaulted

A taxi driver was assaulted in St Leonards on Monday (January 12).

Police are now appealing for witnesses following the attack on the 42-year-old, which happened in West Hill Road at 4pm.

A woman drove a passenger from Havelock Road in her taxi to West Hill Road. When the man refused to pay the fare they began arguing in the street and she was pushed and fell, bruising her shoulder. He paid the fare when a member of the public came to help her.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged 60, 5ft tall and of skinny build with grey hair and a bald crown. He wore a blue casual zip up jacket with brown or blue trousers and white and blue trainers.

Sergeant Rebecca Ostach said: “Please get in touch if you recognise the suspect or if you saw anything that could help us with our investigation. We would particularly like to speak to the man who was passing by and helped the woman after she was attacked.”
