A FORMER Miss Hastings is set to compete against hundreds of other young beauties to be crowned Miss European 2011.
Last year’s Carnival Queen, Tamara Gates, 21, has won a beauty pageant to become one of 10 English finalists who will vie for the title.
She said: “I’m really excited because we get to travel to different European countries. There are several rounds and then the grand final.
“The competition will be tough, there’s a lot of stunning girls from all over Europe. I will be preparing for it all summer and I’m going to try my best to win.”
The selection process involved three rounds: clubwear, swimwear and evening wear, after which the contestants had to make a speech.
“I mentioned Hastings quite a lot and talked about how I come from a little seaside town and that I competed in the half marathon last summer,” added Tamara, of Sedlecombe Road North, St Leonards.
The Miss European grand final takes place in Folkestone in October.
