Take on one of the country’s top chess players

CHALLENGE a chess master during Hastings Week when Thomas Rendle comes to Priory Meadow Shopping Centre to take on the general public.

Hastings’ own Thomas Rendle, an International Master (with one Grandmaster norm), will be playing around 16 games simultaneously from 1pm onwards.

In what is known as a replacement simul match, when one game finishes a new challenger starts a game.

No new challenges will be accepted after 2.30pm.

The event is free to the public and is sponsored by the Hastings and St Leonards Chess Club.

The club will be holding an open day on Sunday, October 13, for those who are interested in chess or finding out more about the long history of the club.

Also, as part of Hastings week, on Tuesday, October 15, at 6.45pm, The White Rock Hotel will be staging the Maureen Charlesworth Chess Challenge.

This is a five-round chess tournament for casual players, which is open to adults and juniors alike with prizes and trophies available.
