PUPILS at St Leonards Academy proved they were a class act after being crowned Town Sports Champions.
The academy took a 70-strong team to the annual event at Ark William Parker Academy on June 27, the pinnacle of the school sporting calendar in the borough.
The team won a school record 41 individual medals to make it their most successful appearance at the popular event.
These included 12 gold, with Zak Juda from Year Seven leading the way with four golds in the 100m, 200m, long jump and relay.
The Academy also took two of the eight team trophies winning the Year Seven boys and Year Eight girls competitions.
Although there were many individual highlights, it was the determination of all 70 students to succeed which meant that The St Leonards Academy was represented in every event.
There were incredible performances from all pupils who went the extra mile to make sure the team received the most amount of points possible.
The standout heroic performance came from girls captain Heather Jury.
The brave youngster was forced to limp round half of her 2nd race of the day with an injury but always knowing she needed to cross the line to gain the valuable points.
Lee Boniface, head of PE at the Academy, said: “The students have represented us in a manner that makes everyone at the Academy feel so proud.
“Their determination and team spirit was unbelievable.
“To have won the overall trophy is the icing on the cake and proves to them all what they can achieve with hard work and a positive attitude.”
