STUDENTS at William Parker Sports College joined thousands of schools and colleges across the UK on Monday to celebrate London 2012 World Sport Day.

The college has dedicated this week to sport and the London 2012 Games and flew flags when it officially opened the week of activities.

A country and flag was allocated to each house in every year group throughout the college.

The students were encouraged to participate in activities, and celebrate athletes and different cultures of the world.

On the day itself William Parker played host to the Little Ridge School sports day which was held at the school’s track.

Year 10 leaders developed their leadership skills by helping to run the event and organise a range of activities, including mini hurdles, discus and ‘soft’ javelin. The children, as well as the William Parker students, had great fun, enjoyed the day and used up lots of energy.

On the same day Silverdale held its sports day where again William Parker Year 10 students helped run the event.

Throughout the week Year 7, 8 and 9 students took part in their sports day and then participated in various house activities including football, basketball and tug of war.

Graham Morris, PE teacher, said: “Monday was a fantastic day that encompassed the Olympic spirit.

“It was an excellent way to kicking off the National Sports Week.”
