String of burglaries in Battle and Crowhurst

Tools, electrical items, gardening equipment and clothes have been stolen in a series of recent burglaries in Battle and Crowhurst.

Sussex Police say at least 12 sheds, garages and vehicles have been targeted by thieves between May 7 and May 24 and officers believe there could be more victims.

All the incidents are believed to be linked.

Some of the items have since been recovered and police are keen to return them to their rightful owners.

Sussex Police Response Investigator Sarah Jones said: “We’re appealing for anyone who believes they may be the victim of a burglary or theft of this nature – or anyone who has any information which may assist our investigation – to contact us on 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting serial Operation Hubcap.”

A 26-year-old man from St Leonards has been arrested on suspicion of burglary with intent to steal, possession of cannabis and interfering with a motor vehicle.

He has been released on police bail until June 23, pending further enquiries.

A 17-year-old boy from Battle has been arrested on suspicion of going equipped for burglary, burglary with intent to steal, possession of cannabis and interfering with a motor vehicle.

He has also been bailed until June 23, pending further enquiries.
