Pestalozzi Village was buzzing with brain activity last Thursday (November 24) when it hosted its Annual Charity Quiz Night.

The night was hosted by comperes, Tsungai Mujera from Zimbabwe, Aamir Ansari from Nepal and Pestalozzi’s Fundraising Officer James Bacon.

James says the event was a great success. “Swiss Hall was completely packed for an entertaining night of questions,” he said. “Along with delicious cultural snacks and an opportunity to meet the exceptional young people who make up the Pestalozzi family.”

Each of the sixteen teams was assisted by two Pestalozzi students as they battled it out in the hope to be crowned the Pestalozzi Quiz Champions 2016. After eight rounds of questions ranging from, ‘How many bones do sharks have?’ to ‘What is the name of Spot the Dog’s Mum?’, the winners were announced.

James said: “The Pestalozzi Pirates, headed up by the CEO, Susan Walton, stood victorious at the end of the evening while the wooden spoon was awarded to the Bexhill Lions Club team.”

During the interval Susan Walton spoke about the life-changing work of the Pestalozzi charity and student Mario Manalu from Indonesia shared his inspirational story and his Pestalozzi experience.

First time visitor Claire Harratt, who headed up the team, ‘The Spartans’, says she was impressed with the evening, “Most importantly the politeness and maturity of the Pestalozzi students,” she said. “I have attended many quiz nights over the years and must say that this was one of the best. Well done Pestalozzi for organising such a fun night out!”

The event raised over £500 which will go towards the life-changing Pestalozzi scholarship programme.

Pestalozzi International Village Trust is a UK based charity based at Sedlescombe. Their next event is a Christmas Fayre on Saturday December 3, 10-3pm. Visitors will be invited to write messages and wishes to family and loved ones on a Dove of Peace, which, in return for a small donation to Pestalozzi, will then be hung on Pestalozzi’s ‘Wishmas Tree’. James said: “It’s sure to be a magical occasion!” To organise a quiz night or Christmas fundraiser for Pestalozzi, email: James.Bacon@pestalozzi.org.uk or call James on 01424 871905.
