A STAMP club has proved to be a first class operation by celebrating its 90th anniversary.

Hastings and East Sussex Philatelic Society first met and formed in Robertson Street on November 23, 1923.

Today it boasts up to 60 members and meets twice a month at the John Taplin Centre at Healey House in Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards.

Last Thursday, November 23, the club met exactly 90 years to the day since it was formed. Members brought a stamp collection from each year the club has been in operation.

An anniversary dinner was due to take place on Thursday night at Sussex Coast College with Mayor of Hastings, councillor Alan Roberts, among the guests. Club spokesman, Christopher Dadswell, said: “It’s a fantastic achivement. We hope to still be going in another 90 years.”
