STAFF at ASDA in Silverhill rolled up their sleeves to get stuck into cleaning up a nearby garden area.

Six members of the branch turned out at St Matthew’s Gardens recently to spend a few hours sprucing it up.

They cleaned up a barbecue area, cleared away leaves and rubbish and helped repair a notice board.

During the next two weeks the staff aim to return and continue their work at the gardens.

They volunteer to help out with local community projects which ASDA pledges its support.

Community colleague Wendy Border said: “A lot of rubbish and cigarette butts have been dumped in the gardens over the years and we were only too happy to help clear up the place.

“Over the next couple of weeks we will be getting an army of volunteers down here to help keep up the good work. We will be giving it a good tidy up for the winter and look forward to our next visit.”
