A newly ordained priest will serve a St Leonards church following a special service at Chichester Cathedral.

Sean Gilbert, of Christ Church, St Leonards, was one of 16 candidates ordained as priests after three years of initial training.

Friends, family and colleagues gathered to witness the ceremonies which took place on May 21 and 22.

Ordinands took an oath before being ordained as priest by the Bishop of Lewes, the right reverend Richard Jackson, and then were given a gift of a bible before joining their family and friends for celebration.

More than 700 people turned up to celebrate the special day and to support the candidates, who will now continue their ministry in the parishes where they serve.
