A St Leonards hotel has been won the ‘eccentric hotel of the year’ award in the so-called Oscars of the industry.
The Zanzibar International Hotel was given the César award by The Good Hotel Guide 2016 – named after César Ritz who founded the London and Paris hotels.
“Talking showers, themed bedrooms and quirky furniture entertain visitors to the intriguing Zanzibar International Hotel,” the guide said.
“Large bay windows provide sweeping views of the seafront, and the popular Pier Nine restaurant serves unpretentious meals.
“During the summer months, alfresco dining is available in the candlelit garden.”
The guide is an unbiased selection of the best hotels, inns and B&Bs with personality and character across the UK and Ireland, co-edited by Adam Raphael and Desmond Balmer.
This year’s guide features 419 main entries, 16 Editor’s Choice categories, with an additional five Editor’s Choice categories online, plus 429 hotels in the Shortlist section.
“This year’s César award winners celebrate the many strengths often associated with small, one-off establishments,” Mr Balmer said.
“All of our winners demonstrate the hospitality, personal service and attention to detail which matter to today’s paying guests.”
