Police are appealing for information about recent vandalism at the Holy Redeemer Church in Upper Church Road, St Leonards.

Ornaments and benches within the grounds have been subjected to vandalism over recent weeks.

Police were first alerted to the issues by one of the church volunteers who looks after the grounds. The initial complaint was due to the amount of littering within the gardens.

Since the initial complaint there have been further incidents, from pots being up turned and the plants removed, to two benches being damaged almost beyond repair.

The church volunteer said: “It’s heartbreaking when I come to the church to look after the gardens and have to spend the first hour or so tidying up the mess that others have left.

“I fear what I will find when I come to the church now and I don’t want to be like that. I want to come and enjoy the gardens while working in them but, more importantly, the church wants to provide a peaceful setting when family members come to pay their respects to loved ones who are no longer with us.”

Local Neighbourhood officer, PCSO Andy Hubbard, is appealing for any residents who may have information to contact him via Police non-emergency number on 101.
