Searching for those who live on margins

HOT on the heels of a screening at The Photographers’ Gallery in London, Lucy Phillips and Photo Hub Group are delighted to be showing this film at Electric Palace Cinema (Tuesday, November 13) as part of Brighton Photo Fringe 2012.

Somewhere to Disappear (Laure Flammarion and Arnaud Uyttenhove, France, 2010, 57min) follows American photographer Alec Soth, who for his project “Broken Manual”, set out to investigate the lives of those who have chosen to retreat from civilisation.

In Somewhere to Disappear, two young filmmakers follow him as he travels around America searching for men who live on the margins of society.

In Soth’s encounters with survivalists, hermits and runaways, we learn about his subjects’ choices and about the photographer’s own desire to find a place to ‘disappear’.

He said: “It’s not really about running away, it’s about the desire to run away.”

Doors open at 7.15pm, and the film, introduced by Alex Brattell, starts at 8pm.

Admission is £5, and the screening is sponsored by Martel Colour Print (www.martelcolourprint.co.uk).

Online booking is available at www.electricpalacecinema.com.

Electric Palace Cinema is at 39a High Street, in the Old Town.
