MEMBERS of a scout group slept rough to raise money for homeless people.

The 7th Hastings (Old Town) Scouts bedded down in All Saints Church yard on Friday by sleeping in cardboard boxes.

Mayor Kim Forward paid a visit at the start of the night to send her best wishes to the scouts, a mixed group of boys and girls.

Pack leader Keith Griffiths said: “The scouts came up with this idea themselves, they had heard about the work of the Seaview Project and wanted to raise money for it, which does such a good job to help those struggling with life.

He added: “It was a particularly cold night, unexpected in August, and I was really impressed with the determination and spirit they all showed.

“We hope to have raised more than £200 in all, which will be split between the Seaview Project and the Scout troop.”
