The inspection report for New Horizons, based in Beauchamp Road, St Leonards, stated: ‘Pupils learning and progress are outstanding. Pupils’ attainment improves significantly, often from low starting points.’
The pupils, staff and parents and governors are celebrating being part of an Outstanding School Community; The SABDEN Federation which provides specialised education to young people with complex behavioural, emotional, social difficulties. It is the third school in the Federation to be awarded the highest Grade One (Outstanding) judgement against all five of the OFSTED criteria of a Section 5 full inspection. These are overall effectiveness, achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety and leadership and management.
With just one day’s notice, and against the tough framework introduced by Ofsted in September 2012, New Horizons School gained an exceptional report and feedback from the team of two inspectors who visited the school in July.
Chairman of governors, Margaret Southworth said: “All of the staff at New Horizons School have been on a relentless journey over a number of years in their pursuit of excellence. We are immensely proud to celebrate this success with all stakeholders of our community and are looking forward to sharing our story and best practice with colleagues in other schools and academies.”
