SAGA’S 300 employees in Hastings helped raise more than £92,000 during the company’s annual fundraising fortnight.
Money collected will help the Saga Charitable Trust to supply mosquito nets in Zambia, construct dams in Kenya, build a medical clinic in Nepal and, set up a school in Morocco. It also enables The Saga Respite for Carers Trust provide more unpaid family carers with much-needed respite breaks.
At the Hastings office staff waxed legs, hunted for treasure and baked cakes in their equivalent of the Great British Bake Off. Employees could even make their managers a slave for the day and order them to fetch teas and snacks.
More than 100 staff took part in a Back to Skool quiz, held at the Saga offices in Hastings, Thanet and Folkestone during the fundraising fortnight and raised some £3,000.
Many of this year’s fundraising events were inspired by the Olympics. In one day, 15 employees took part in the Moroccathon relay, involved cycling, running, riding a tandem and hitching a ride in a speed boat, camper van and classic car, starting from Hastings and visiting every Saga site in Kent and Sussex.
