The owners of the Jenny Lind pub in the Old Town are going on a Great Beer Run to source the best beers in Britain for their bank holiday weekend festival.
inda and Keith Challis are embarking on a 1,200 mile road trip around a small handful of breweries in the UK that won awards at CAMRA’s Great British Beer Festival this month.
The Trip will them to Retford, Glasgow, Stoke upon Trent, Gwynedd, ending in Horsham.
Keith, known in the Old Town as KC, said: “Having attended the Great British Beer Festival on August 11 when the winning beers were announced, we immediately sampled each beer, for audit purposes of course.
“Three Firkins of each award winning beer will be purchased ready for dispense on the ‘Great Bank Holiday Weekend’ when we will be celebrating these beers with live entertainment.
“For logistic purposes we are arranging supply of Long Man and Timothy Taylor’s from our local wholesaler to be delivered to The Jenny Lind. Why not compare last year’s winner Boltmaker with this year’s Madog’s Ale and share your opinion?”
Among the beers that will be on offer over the weekend are Pheasantry, from Retford, which won the Gold Award in the best bitter category at the Great British Beer Festival.
Other more exotic ales that will be available include Titanic Plum Porter, from Stoke, and Black Cherry Mild, from Kissingate Brewery in Horsham.
Real ale enthusiasts will also be able to sample Boltmaker, from Yorkshire brewery Timothy Taylor, which was voted Best Beer of the Festival 2014. Also in the line-up is Jaguar, from Glasgow brewery Kelburn; Dark Star Revelation, from Sussex, and Madog’s Ale from Welsh based brewery Purple Moose.
The beers will be on sale from the evening of Friday August 28 and over the four day weekend.
Live entertainment over the weekend will be provided by local bands including Helen Sharpe and the Soulshine Band, The Moors, King Size Slim and Strum and Bass. For more details of bands and beers at the Jenny Lind visit www.jennylindhastings.co.uk.
