MORE than £1,100 was handed over to a charity that airlifts injured people to hospital.

Members of St Leonards Rotary Club, together with their wives and friends, visited Sussex Air Ambulance in Marden, Kent, last week, to present the money, totalling £1,132.

The club had additionally raised £1,000 earlier this year, which was presented in April, as well as the contents of a collection tin amounting to £35.41, resulting in a total donation to the Sussex Air Ambulance of £2,167.41.

This was the chosen charity of last year’s club president, Bunny Cruttenden, and the money was raised from various events throughout his year in office.

The club’s spokesman, Ray Howard, said: “We were delighted to visit Marden to hand over this donation and to hear an explanation of their duties from both the duty pilot and paramedic. Fortunately there was no call-out while we were there, although it would have been an added experience to witness a rapid departure by the helicopter.”
