A NEW beehive has been donated to a charity which helps people with learning disabilities.

Members of the Rotary Club of St Leonards visited the Parchment Trust recently to hand over the beehive for the charity’s Friary Gardeners project.

The club’s president, Tony Leslie, met Janice Kelly, manager of Friary Gardens, which is based within Ore Place Farm, on The Ridge.

Club spokesman, Ray Howard, said: “We agreed to donate a new beehive to Friary Gardens following a talk earlier in the year by manager Roger Hambrook, this would mean that two hives were operating throughout the summer.

“Unfortunately there were various hold-ups as the hives are made to order, and it was only received a few weeks ago.

“A swarm will now occupy the hive from next April/May time. We are pleased to support Friary Gardens in view of the tremendous work they do with the trainees.”
