Hastings lad Robert Lawson , aged 19, has passed out of basic training with the Royal Engineers.

Robert, who attended St Paul’s Primary School and William Parker Sports Academy, later completed three years at Ore Valley College, obtaining City & Guilds Level 1 in basic construction, and level 2 and 3 diploma in plumbing.

Robert said: “Whilst attending College, I worked part time for Freedom Leisure, both at Summerfields Leisure Centre and Bexhill Leisure Pool as a lifeguard and recreation assistant.

“Living in Hastings I never felt fully challenged in day to day life.

“ I loved working at Bexhill Leisure Pool but it was never enough. I’ve always wanted to travel and I love fitness.

“The lifestyle of being in the British Army just ticked all the boxes for me so I felt it was time to make something of myself.”

Robert joined the Royal Engineers in August and passed out of basic training on Friday November 6.
