RNLI called to help stricken yacht in fog

Lifeboatmen were called out to help a stricken yacht that had run aground due to thick fog yesterday evening (Thursday).

The inshore lifeboat was launched from Hastings RNLI station at around 5pm to the vessel Geordie Lad, which ran into trouble in Bulverhythe, near the Amsterdam wreck.

Steve Warne, coxswain for Hastings RNIL, said: “The yacht had got a bit too close to the shore and ran aground due to thick fog.

“One our way down we came across a couple of kayak parties and advised them to get ashore so they wouldn’t get lost in the fog. They took our advice as they were around 200 yards out to sea.

“We proceeded to the yacht and offered assistance and it was able to pull itself on its own anchor later in the evening.”
