YOUNGSTERS from Respond Academy feature in the music video for a leading hip hop DJ and producer’s latest single.
Joe Cole, who goes by the name Skitz, has 25 years experience in the music industry, and has been working with young people at Respond Academy since swapping Hackney for Hastings several years ago.
Connected with all the big names in UK hip hop, and having co-hosted the flagship hip hop show on BBC Radio 1Extra, he has plenty of expertise to share, and runs music production workshops at the centre in St Leonards.
He said: “I am just trying to give them a little inspiration, it’s nice to show them there are alternative ways, if you put your mind to it.”
Skitz’s forthcoming single “Never” is released on Monday (May 7), and features Rodney P, Roots Manuva, Darrison MC, and Solo Banton.
The part of the music video shot in Hastings town centre, behind the library, features young people from Respond as extras, and they were all too keen to play a part in such a high profile project.
“The kids had never been involved in a music video before. They loved it.”
The finished video is being kept a closely guarded secret, and no one from Respond Academy has seen it yet, though a cohort from Respond will be travelling up to Shoreditch, east London for the big launch party next Thursday (May 10).
