A GROUP of Old Town residents have done their bit to spruce up an area of Hastings.

The borough council’s rangers invited people living in the Croft Road area of the Old Town to help tidy up the roadside and plant a hedge.

Twelve people from the local community, combined with the rangers, police and other council employees, made short work of the planting and collected ten bags of rubbish.

More than 130 metres of hedge was planted with native species of blackthorn, hawthorn, holly and guelder rose. Once established, the hedge will form a natural barrier and greatly benefit wildlife.
