Regeneration scheme for White Rock Baths could be stalled amid financial concerns

A £401,000 scheme for regeneration of the White Rock Baths (WRB) could be shelved by the council due to financial and practical concerns.

A report by Simon Hubbard, director of regeneration, to be presented at the meeting of the Charity Committee on July 2, suggests that a different approach be considered to the one proposed by Lifecycle, and agreed by the committee in December.

Lifecycle was to manage the refurbishment of WRB once essential preliminary work had been carried out at the seafront site, vacant since 1997. The company planned to open a cafe and cycle hub.

However, the report states that the exact programme of work to be carried out still remains an issue, and suggests that other options should be considered alongside the Lifecycle proposal, and that a brief should be drawn up which invites other potential investors to submit proposals.
