A YOUNG woman who died after a 50 foot plunge off a railway bridge has been named this afternoon.

Michelle Hudson, 25, of Holmesdale Gardens, fell off the bridge at the bottom of Linton Road at about 4am on Sunday morning.

She was found on the railway line and rushed to the Conquest Hospital but died on Monday afternoon.

A 21-year-old local man was arrested early on Sunday morning on suspicion of attempted murder and quizzed by detectives. The suspect - who officers said did know Miss Hudson - was released on bail until March 24.

Forensic officers combed the scene on Sunday morning before the railway line was re-opened at about midday. Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles who is leading the investigation said “We are treating this as a suspicious death and extensive local enquiries are continuing in the area.”

He asked anyone who was in the area at the time to contact him on 0845 6070999.
