The ‘Green Project’ at Ponds Wood took place last Saturday (20 October) and a break in the incessant rain helped achieve a record number of volunteers.

Over 30 people from the local community went along and between them collected over 6 bags of litter. Vegetation around the pond was also cut back enabling the pond to be opened up to attract waterfowl and generally make the place more inviting.

Cllr Emily Westley lead member for leisure said: “The help from volunteers is vital to keep these very special areas in the borough clear and accessible for all. Thanks must go to all the people who turned up, the response was overwhelming. There was a mixture of ages and abilities and everyone was so keen to get stuck in, a lot more was achieved on the day than ever expected!”
