THREE local gym owners have organised a power-lifting contest to raise money for Help the Heroes, to coincide with Remembrance Sunday.

Martin Beeson, 30, Chris Beeson, 28, and Steve Bryant, 34, owners of Zeus Gym, in Theaklen Drive, St Leonards, all have strong links to the armed forces.

The power-lifting event is to take place at the gym next Sunday (November 13) starting at 11am. All the money raised on the day for the charity will be matched pound for pound by Barclays Bank. Mr Beeson said: “Many of our members are serving soldiers, as are many of our friends. We feel that the armed forces need the support of every civilian in the country. Both beginners and experienced power-lifters are encouraged to enter. Entry into the competition is £20, with all proceeds going to the charity.”

The resident tattoo artist will be on site, offering small tattoos for £20, with proceeds aside from the cost of ink and needles going to Help for Heroes. Mr Beeson added: “We just want to do our bit for every man and woman who has sworn an oath to protect our country. It’s the least we can do in return for what they have done and are doing.”
