Police hunting man who tried to entice Helenswood girl into car in St Leonards

Police have confirmed that they are hunting a man who tried to entice a Helenswood Academy pupil into his car on Monday (January 26).

Officers said they had received a description of the man from the student.

A spokesman for Sussex Police, said the girl was found outside a house in Battle Crescent, St Leonards at around 11.20am.

He said: “She told officers she had been dropped off near Helenswood Academy by her father at 8.30am and was walking at the junction of The Ridge and Eldridge Way when a man in a silver car called out to her and asked if she wanted a lift. She ran back towards Harrow Lane and down the footpath alongside Beaulieu Gardens towards Harrow Lane recreation ground. She described the man as white, around 40, thin build and with short black hair styled in a fringe. She said that he followed her down the footpath, but there were no further words exchanged between them.”

Lucy Monk, principal of Helenswood Academy, issued a letter to all parents following Monday’s incident.

Detective Inspector Rob Morland said: “We are treating this as a suspicious act, although I would stress that the girl was not attacked nor physically touched in any way.” Anyone with information should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting serial 448 of 26/01.”
