AN outreach project which works with victims of domestic abuse has been boosted by a donation from Hastings Police – but its future is still uncertain.

The Observer revealed in November that more than five incidents of domestic abuse are reported every day in 1066 Country but the picture could be much worse with experts estimating that less than half of cases ever come to light.

The Freedom Project at The Bridge centre in Priory Road works with women who have experienced attacks in the home to support them in turning their lives around. There is a waiting list for the course but funding issues have plunged the future of the project into doubt so Hastings Police have donated £400 from the Police Property Act fund, which uses cash seized from convicted criminals to help good causes. The donation will cover one third of the costs for the next course, with The Bridge hoping to run one before Easter, but organisers are still trying to meet the remainder of the costs.
