THE soon to be open Moveable Feast community garden has received a donation of plants from Hastings Garden Centre.

Sally Walton and Nicole Collomb from the team behind the garden in Western Road, St Leonards, collected £200 worth of plants from the garden centre on Wednesday.

Sally said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Hastings Garden Centre for the plant donation.

“The plants will really transform the garden.

“We wanted to create a community produce garden where local people can meet their neighbours and help one another grow fruit and vegetables.”

The garden, set up by members of the local Wonky Women’s Institute, is completely portable - a container garden with a difference. Planted on a vacant derelict plot, it can easily be moved on to the next site when the owners need to take back the land.

Mark Smith, manager of the garden centre, in Bexhill Road, St Leonards, said: “We are delighted to have donated £200 of plants to the project. They have turned an empty piece of land into a community garden.”
